Therapy Process

Therapy Process

"Throughout Life's journey we encounter many challenges"

Therapy and therapeutic conversations provide an opportunity to explore life experiences and parts of our selves that have been unacknowledged. Therapy can create space for novel understandings of the events of our lives, gaining new awareness that otherwise would not be open to us.

People come to a therapy process with various problems, needs or challenges. Therapy is about the exploration of how we are impacted by our life experiences and discovering different choices and strategies to resolve the difficulties that keep us stuck.

Through therapy we may challenge taken for granted beliefs, heighten our self awareness and begin to engage in practices of living in a different way.

Karen Hurley Psychotherapy Associates are a dedicated team of experienced mental health professionals with vast & varied expertise for adults, couples, families, children and adolescents.

This allows us to offer an appropriate fit for an individual, couple or family’s therapeutic needs. We are mindful to practicing in a sensitive therapeutic milieu to allow individuals from varying cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds to feel safe and comfortable to address issues, express their concerns and to gain a better sense of well-being. We are committed to providing unbiased, respectful and timely clinical intervention to a diverse clientele by tailoring therapy to each individual’s own personal history, life circumstance and world view

FIRST SESSION

Therapy is a collaborative effort between you and your therapist. During your first session, usually scheduled for one hour, you will be exploring what is currently happening in your life that has prompted you to seek help at this time. Our associates take an active listening approach so you can feel heard. Therapy is a joint process resulting in feeling less alone and more connected.

Therapy is about you, and your life journey. You are worth making a commitment to improve your life. Therapy works.

INSURANCE COVERAGE

Therapy services are often covered under most extended health insurance plans, which may include psychology, psychotherapy, social work and/or marriage and family therapy.

Reviewing your extended health plan may provide you access to a wider array of therapy options.

MINDFULNESS & HYPNOSIS

Mindfulness is the short term for mindfulness meditation practice. This is a form of self-awareness training adapted from Buddhist mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness is about being aware of what is happening in the present, moment-by -moment, without making judgements about what we notice. Mindfulness meditation practice is a key ingredient in a variety of evidence -based psychotherapies, including Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
