There are many reasons why someone seeks the help of a therapist. Often times, it is the result of a difficult or painful life experience, or an inability to resolve a significant issue on your own, despite your best efforts. Regardless of the challenges that you may be facing, you can be reassured that our associates treat each and every individual as unique and as a valued person.
Therapy will provide you with an opportunity to express your concerns in a safe and non-judging environment where you will feel heard, and be acknowledged, for who you really are. Together we will discuss what you may want to achieve through the therapy process.
At Karen Hurley Psychotherapy, we are mindful to practicing in a sensitive therapeutic milieu to allow individuals from varying cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds to feel safe and comfortable to address issues, express their concerns, and to gain a better sense of well-being.
I currently offer clinical consultation, supervision and mentoring to
therapists and healing professionals who provide services to adults, youth, couples and families. I have supervised MSW students, Registered Psychotherapists (qualifying), therapists and clinicians who are starting out in private practices as well as more seasoned therapists.
WHAT IS MINDFULNESS?
Mindfulness is the short term for mindfulness meditation practice. This is a form of self-awareness training adapted from Buddhist mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness is about being aware of what is happening in the present, moment-by -moment, without making judgements about what we notice. Mindfulness meditation practice is a key ingredient in a variety of evidence -based psychotherapies, including Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
